Rochester Retailer Admits to SNAP Fraud

A Rochester convenience store owner admitted to food stamp fraud in Monroe County Court on Tuesday.

Nabil Saeed, 59, who owned the Discount Food Market on Avenue D, pleaded guilty to misuse of food stamps, a felony. According to his plea agreement, Saeed will spend 16 weekends in jail and forfeit more than $50,000 cash that was seized from his store.

According to New York State Inspector General Catherine Leahy Scott, Saeed exchanged food stamps with his customers for a fraction of their value in cash. He defrauded the government for $16,596.80.

Saeed was one of three business owners charged during a year-long investigation by local, state and federal authorities. Saeed engaged in the fraudulent activities between January 2013 and May 2015.
