Queensbury woman charged with welfare fraud

QUEENSBURY – A town woman was arrested for allegedly billing the state Department of Social Services for $1,358 in childcare benefits that she was not entitled to, Warren County Sheriff’s Office said.
Jessica May Cassant, 26, of Burke Drive, was charged with welfare fraud and grand larceny and two counts of filing a false instrument, all felonies.

Warren County social services conducted the investigation with the sheriff’s office, which allegedly found that Cassant submitted billing forms in September and October of 2016. She allegedly claimed to be working and in need of childcare on 15 occasions when she was not, deputies said.
Cassant was ordered to appear in Queensbury Town Court on a later date.
