Elmira Police arrest woman for welfare fraud; nearly $10,000 fraudulently received

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Elliandra Batista was arrested on an active Elmira City Court Warrant after Elmira Police alleged she filed fraudulent paperwork with the Department of Social Services and received nearly $10,000 in Daycare Subsidy Benefits she was not entitled to.

Batista was arrested on Sept. 21 and charged with Welfare Fraud 3rd Degree, Grand Larceny 3rd Degree and Offering a False Instrument for Filing 1st Degree. The first two charges are Class D felonies, and the third is a Class E felony.

An investigation conducted by the Department of Social Services Special Investigation Unit and the Elmira Police Dept alleges “that Batista did file fraudulent paperwork with the Department of Social Services and received $9,958.50 in Daycare Subsidy Benefits she was not entitled to receive.”

Olean Women Charged With Welfare Fraud

OLEAN, NY — An Olean woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with welfare fraud, grand larceny and offering a false instrument for filing.

Melissa S. Parsell-Herbert, 29, allegedly received $10,082 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits by providing false information, according to a news release from the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

Parsell-Herbert turned herself in at the Department of Social Services in Olean and was released with an appearance ticket, according to the news release. She is due to appear in the City of Olean Court at a later date.

Dues for Members In Good Standing Waived for 2020-2021

The Board met on July 7, 2020 and unanimously agreed to waive dues for the 2020-2021 administrative year for all members who were in good standing for the 2019-2020 year; which means all memberships will be extended until June 2021.
